Supporting women

Domestic abuse does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or socio-economic status. It affects women from all backgrounds and communities. However, the reality is that not all women, children and young people are treated equally.  Social and structural constraints can negatively impact how victims  are perceived and supported, often creating additional barriers for them when seeking help, support and protection.

Women from Asian, Black and Minority Ethnic communities face particular challenges when accessing support. Cultural sensitivities, as well as the personal experiences of women in the UK, can make it difficult to seek or receive help. These challenges can include language barriers, fear or distrust of services, immigration concerns, limited access to legal support, and pressure from family or community.

Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid are committed to addressing these barriers and ensuring that women, children and young people receive the support they need.

An intersectional feminist approach is adopted in work practices  recognising difference and that each woman’s experience is individual and shaped by multiple factors.

Specialised staff provide culturally sensitive support and understand the complex challenges faced by women from minority ethnic communities.
